«The music scene is really a beautiful thing. There are plenty of interesting things to find, even in the underground scene in which test tube is moving, the netlabel scene.
We're very proud here, at test tube's, to release each and every artist that comes to us with a really original and captivating work, but occasionally, there is one that really stands out of the crowd.
We proudly present Lezrod's 'Seleccion Natural', a four piece EP by Colombian man David Vélez, artist and friend, who crafts fantastic electronic constructions, pretty much in the way architects craft houses and buildings.
David loves classic Jazz and Funk, IDM electronics, Contemporary Music and Film music. And it shows.
'Dubid' and its laidback jazz drums, cinematic ambient streams and software glitches is a bliss to our senses. We just let go, gently, watching the movie, tasting the stuff, until 'Apoc' comes forward. 'Apoc' pays a little homage to an IDM artist, who introduced David to synths and to the sounds widely known as electronic music. Its first seconds contain a vocal sample from him. From there it goes to the heart of the machine. This one is technologically cold, with static noises bursting everywhere. Impressively strong and strict and experimental. 'Re' keeps trailing the 'Apoc' path. More experimental noise and IDM crossover, glitches abound, impromptus with religious weight. Awesome, this one, strong personality and heavy as ever. Finally, 'Adios' sends us home. David returns to the beginning, and to where he's strong and at his best. Jazz flows again. The drums, people, the drums! With a deliberate melancholic tone, 'Adios' returns the listener to the starting point. The harmonic tones, the drum breaks, the digital glitches. This is what makes Lezrod's music Lezrod's music. Seleccion Natural is the most satisfying of the albums. The tracks are abstract and experimental but remains grounded in tones and melodies even if those melodies are fragile and barely visible. There is more of a beat in this album, especially on “Epoc” and the Latin influenced “Adios”. If you download one Lezrod album, this would probably be your best bet. (...)»

«Outra das das grandes edições da test tube é este EP de Lezrod, artista colombiano que também dá pelo nome de David Velez e que auto-define como um audio destructionalist. Em seleccion natural, a partir de Bogotá, Lezrod produziu uma sequência de quatro temas de electrónica experimental complexa com um travo amargo que lhe vai muito bem. Contenção e capacidade de síntese são duas ideias que cultiva e põe ao serviço da sua produção electrónica caseira. Essencialmente, tem bom gosto, sabe experimentar e gerir as combinações geometricamente bem organizadas de sons sintetizados e analógicos, servindo-se da reverberação controlada e da manipulação de frequências como tempero. Brian Eno há anos que ensina como se faz. Por cima das melodias minimais em loop, Lezrod dispõe o resultado das suas investigações, misturando percussões acústicas que vai buscar ao jazz, com outros samples, delays, sobreposições de glitch, estática e ruído experimental variado com que estrutura a obra, sem se perder em repetições estultas ou motivos acessórios. Apenas o essencial para despachar 20 minutos de puro contentamento digital.»

«On enchaîne... Nouvelle parution de Test Tube: Lezrod! Le Colombien David Vélez s'invite donc sur le netlabel portugais. Ambiant. On pense inévitablement dès les premières notes (Dubid) à The Orb ou FSOL. On a connu pires comme références, non? Cela dit, c'est quand même un peu plus compliqué que cela. La musique de Lezrod est également teintée de jazz et de funk. Ca coule tout seul en tout cas. Apoc est plus torturé, avec des sons distordus, des delays qui durent, qui durent, qui durent... Les références précitées ne tiennent plus. C'est presque indus, ce coup-ci ! Re poursuit sur cette voie. Déconstruction, ambiance angoissante, expérimentations, glitch et désinvolture. Surprenant. Enfin, Seleccion Natural s'achève avec Adios, un condensé des trois premiers morceaux... L'ambiant est quand même déjà loi, comme dépassée par une bouffée de liberté et d'interprétation à la volée.»

«Em apenas 2 anos, a netlabel Test Tube já lançou um impressionante número de álbuns e EPs em formato mp3. E, o mais surpreendente, sempre com um nível de qualidade muito elevado. No quantum ducks já tinhamos destacado os lançamentos de Phoebus e Rui Gato, mas não deixamos de estar atentos ao output desta label. Chegou agora a vez de destacar o lançamento do EP de Lezrod, um colombiano fã de Brian Eno, John Coltrane e Autechre. Não raras vezes tem sido tentada uma ligação entre estes três mundos, o ambiental, o jazz e a IDM, e Lezrod consegue de facto entrar nestes campos e lançar um EP rico nos detalhes e montado de uma forma irrepreensível. Cada sample é sequenciado e largado no exacto momento. Há muita frieza industrial e maquinal neste trabalho, mas isso não abala o outro lado deste EP, impregnado de sabor a resistência num qualquer underground perdido na América Latina. Não vale muito a pena estabelecer pontos de contacto com outros músicos da América Latina como o Murcof. Por aqui há um sentimento personalizado que, contudo, é suficientemente universal para que este EP pudesse fazer sentido em qualquer parte do mundo. No fundo, Lezrod também é um reflexo da tecnologia omnipresente que nos envolve e que atinge o mundo inteiro, seja ela representada pelo lado cibernético da internet ou pelo trânsito infernal das grandes metrópoles da América do Sul.»
